A US survey of marketing decision-makers in March 2011 asked how much of their budgets had shifted from traditional buckets to digital ones in the past three years:
- 23 % said they had shifted 30% of their marketing $ to digital
- 24 % said they had shifted 20% of their marketing $ to digital
- eMarketer predicts that magazine and newspaper advertising will decline as digital ad spending will rise.
- In 2011, internet advertising is already the second-highest advertising medium behind TV. But the combined advertising spend of newspapers and magazines is $4 billion higher.
- Next year, the situation will be reversed. Marketers will spend $2.9 billion more in US on internet advertising than on print.
Meanwhile, as consumers’ attention strays markedly from print, the ad spending dedicated there remains disproportionate.
- For newspapers, people in U.S. spent 4.9% of their time reading them in 2010, but marketers committed 14.9% of their budget to that medium.
- In magazines, the contrast is equally dramatic. Magazines commanded just a 3.3% share of consumer’s time in 2010, but spending was 9.6% of marketers’ budgets.
- For Internet, people in U.S spent 25% of their time online but 17% of their budgets were committed to this medium.
There is currently a significant imbalance of time spent per medium vs. allocation of marketing $ – this lag needs to be addressed in the coming years to better reflect the reality of modern media consumption.
I love these type of quirky videos where people have random ideas that have surprising outcomes – look at this one from someone who decided to turn on the video on their iphone, put it inside their guitar and start playing pieces of Eric Clapton’s music!
Hope you like it.
Orange in Europe has come up with this fantastic idea of charging numerous models of their telephones using:
a T- shirt and sound waves!
The specially made T shirt collects noise which is then transferred to recharging your telephone! Great for charging up your phone at music gigs.
In my opinion, the only thing they are missing is to brand these T-shirts with cool designs so that they become high tech, desirable fashion accessories that are also highly functional & fun to wear.
I know Orange partnered with Glastonbury Music Festival in UK but maybe specific bands could partner with Orange to sell these shirts at gigs that incorporate the bands logos and designs! Complicated but definitely numerous commercial possibilities here.
If they try these types of deals, Orange could be swimming in Gold !
‘A picture is worth a thousand words’ goes the saying – well if you click on the images below and go to Dearphotograph.com, I guarantee that you will see why.
The concept behind the site is simple – you return to the scene of a previous photo that was taken (years ago in many cases) and you then hold up the exact photo that was taken at that time in that same location, but today, and you take another picture.
I was personally very moved by many of these images, some of which made the hairs on my neck stand up ! Clearly many of the photos are taken by people returning to the scenes of their own childhoods, or reliving some powerful memories.
Thanks to Carlos for making me aware of this very touching site.
Now there are some things that can be recycled after a fairly lengthy process and there are others like this one from Puma that become liquid in a couple of minutes! Check it out – the video hots up after about 40 seconds. Hats off to Puma for this.
Following my first 6 months of blogging, during which I have learnt a huge amount and thoroughly enjoyed the experience so far, here are my 10 most popular posts according to you.
I’m really happy about the fact that this top 10 is a mixture of ad related posts and general nonsense which was my goal when I decided to start blogging. (I almost chose the URL, re-boot.ca coz it sounded like R Booth!! )
My initial reason for starting blogging was to create a ‘lunch and learn and laugh’ blog that would hopefully be of interest to those in the ad industry, as well as to anyone with a sense of humour.
Anyway, here’s to another 6 months and thanks again for all your kind words, support and encouragement. Any feedback, either good or bad, is always appreciated ! Click on the images below to see the original posts. My personal favourites in this list, were #s 10, 9, 6 and 4, if you’re interested!
