Top 3 Weird National Holidays!!

To celebrate this long weekend in Quebec, I thought I would give you a brief Top 3 of Weird National holidays from around the world:

#3 Day of the Sea in Bolivia

While it is fairly common for countries to remember an important military event through the commemoration of a national holiday, few battles are remembered in such a strange way as the Bolivian loss of the Port of Calama to Chilean forces.

On March 23, the land-locked country remembers the loss of its last ocean-front property by marching in parades (as seen above) and solemnly listening to recordings of sea gulls and ship’s horns !!

Great excuse for a holiday – the loss of a port in a land locked country!! Good times.

#2 Melon Day in Turkmenistan (no idea where that is!)

Best way to celebrate the creation of a popular crossbreed of muskmelons – yes, a holiday, every August 12. The president of the country has even reflected how important the holiday is to his people, noting that “since ancient times Turkmenistan has been considered the homeland of the best melons in the world.”

Err…if you say so, Mr President!

#1 Korean Aphabet Holidays (Yes, there are more than one!)

Nothing says a day off work like a set of letters or symbols in a fixed order, used to represent the basic sounds of a language – the alphabet !

On October 9, the South Koreans celebrate Hangul Day and on January 15, the South Koreans observe Chosen gul Day, but both holidays are intended to celebrate the creation of the Korean Alphabet.

Happy long weekend, my Quebec friends!

Top 7 psycho Santas

So it’s that time of year again.

A time when we curse and swear trying to get overpriced, oversized pointy trees on our car roofs with frozen, numb fingers.

A time when we argue about where that pointy tree should go…over here or over there?

And of course, it’s a time when the law turns a blind eye to children sitting on the laps of  strange old bearded men in shopping malls

Enjoy this list of 7 seasonal psychos  – ‘Tis the season to be Jolly ….scared’

#7 – Clearly the shopping mall police check on this man never happened !

#6 – Alcohol induced present-giving at its best

#5 – Make up or booze caused that look? Either way….highly disturbing

#4 – Number 5’s brother perhaps? Double trauma here for these poor little guys.

#3 – What are you staring at, cameraman? Get lost !

#2 – If you tell anyone about this…….I swear I’ll hunt you down!

#1 – Pure, pure evil – Lapland takes on a different meaning for this chart-topping, psycho Saint Nicholas !

Cakes from hell

Sometimes you have the best intentions when making or ordering a cake for that special someone that you know, and sometimes the results are just plain disappointing.

From the site www.Cakewrecks.com, take a look at some of these beauties that perhaps shouldn’t have passed ‘cake quality control.’

For example, be careful when ringing up to order a cake and saying that you want nothing written on the cake.

So proud that it’s a boy, that they had to write it incorrectly twice.

And thirthly, check out this classic. What a lucky girl or boy Anasys or Anasyn is.

And twenty thirthly, this one’s not bad either.

But finally my favourite, simply because the final result must have been so so far from the original expectations of the client who wanted the logo of their favourite University of Kentucky team for their special day…..

They wanted this:

But got this:

Should have had YUK written on the cake, not a deformed UK !!
